Baaba Maal: Djam Leeli (The Adventurers)

I was revisiting some of the world music that caught my attention in the late 80’s and early 90’s when I “rediscovered” the Djam Leeli album by Baaba Maal. As Chris Blackwel (from Island Records) was trying to find an African Bob Marley Baaba Maal was the first choice. It was initially between Baaba Maal and Youssou N”Dour  as to being Senegals greatest musical export, but Baaba Maal’s attempt at becoming a pop star led to relative obscurity outside of Africa, while Youssou N”Dour  (as we know) became a household name around the world. This is however one of me favorite early world albums, well wort a listen. On Spotify and  Youtube among others. Finding this music has become a lot easier than it was, digging though record crates in obscure shops.
